Dravce   INFO

Kamenný gotický most pochádza najneskôr z 15. storočia.

This town is first mentioned in documents in 1263 as a village in which royal falcon breeders lived. It was a thrall village that served Spiš's Castle. In 1282 ruler Ladislav IV. gave this village to Eliáš. He called an Order of Antonites to Dravce where they founded a monastery in 1288. Apart from the monastery were also founded: an inn, a hospital for poor which is one of the oldest in the Slovakia. About 1555 Antonites left the village. Nowadays from the entire area only church remained.
Stone Gothic Bridge comes at the latest from the 15th Century. We assume that it was constructed already at the end of the 13th Century.
Antonite's Church dominates the entire village. It was very likely built at the end of the 13th Century. In that time a monastery was founded there as well. The church has no tower. Ceiling was originally wooden but about 1440 it was substituted with arch that is held by two posts in the middle. Modified thus, a typical church with two naves was created. Presbytery was built to the church. In 1929 very precious murals of two kinds were discovered in the church. The older ones came into existence at the beginning of the 14th Century and they are considered as one of the most high quality paintings that come from the late Byzantine era in the whole Slovakia. There are three from these pictures: painting The Legend of St. Anthony the Hermit consists of 10 scenes and is situated above the left choir pew. Paintings Crucifixion and Revelation are situated behind the main altar.
In the church interior you can also find: Gothic Altar of Painful Man from the end of the 15th Century, partially Gothic Altar of Annunciation of Our Lady, St. Anthony's Statue from 1400, Gothic Madonna and two persons from Revelation who come from about 1470.There are precious choir pews situated with abundant decorations on both sides of presbytery. Stone font comes from the 13th Century. A cross from the end of the 15th Century is situated in the hall.
There is a bell tower in the vicinity of the church. It was originally wooden but from 1956 it is bricked.
Northwards leads a road to Bukovinka. Some of the wooden houses are used for recreation nowadays. The vicinity is good for hiking or bicycle tourism, in winter ski running.
